Custom Made World review by Mitch Alexander
Greek producer George Vougioukas made his production debut on Baroque Records in September of 2012. His appearance on the labels ‘Chilled Structures 2′ collection lead to a second outing on Volume 4 of the popular series in July of 2013. Both releases were incredibly successful breaking into the Beatport Top 20 and the Top 10 of the Billboard charts. As the second quarter of 2014 is now upon us George is prepared to unveil his debut album which fittingly comes courtesy of Baroque Records once again. The Greek producer has donned a new alias ‘Tokkoi’ for the album which comes with 12 brand new original tracks and two enticing remixes.
The 14 tracks presented on ‘Custom Made World’ are sure to be some of the most gorgeous, well crafted pieces of music you’ll hear all year. The instrumentation and musicality are just exceptional and the vocal collaborations really shine as well. From the deeply emotional opener ’45 Minutes’ the journey is highlighted with delicate piano sequences, blissful chords and heartwarming harmonies. The heavenly vocal wails of ‘Athens’ are a real highlight and this along with many other selections here are great candidates for a cinematic score. ‘Edge Of A Dream’ features the vocals of AthinaNiki and it’s another one of the standout selections. It’s meandering guitars and emotive pianos lead into the brilliance of the title cut ‘Custom Made World’. It’s one of most touching tracks on the album and you’d be hard pressed to find a more heart wrenching vocal courtesy of Meagan.
The interesting thing about this collection is tacked on the end are a couple more dance floor oriented collaborations. ‘Mr Ohm’ in conjunction with Mexican producer Alex Villanueva is a grinding, drummy masterpiece that slowly evolves into a real peak time monster of a track. And Jon Silva’s deep house interpretation of ‘Koi 961′ is full of funky grooves, striking electronics and live sounding drums which just enhance the wicked grooves that much more. It seems fitting though that one of the collections most gorgeous constructions ‘Edge Of A Dream’ shows up again to close the album out. This time remixed by Irish producer Owsey. The softly reinvented vocals and panoramic soundscapes leave you with the perfect sense of just how great this collection is and how much you want to experience it again. An outstanding debut album from Tokkoi and a very impressive release for Baroque Records.
